This is the most underrated item in your closet. Guaranteed. Do you know what I’m talking about?
That white button-down blouse or shirt. Yup, that’s the one. And here is a fun little fact: It no longer needs to be restricted to being hidden under a blazer or for work meetings! This staple piece is one of the most versatile items in your closet which you probably haven’t taken full advantage of recently. It deserves to be shown off and taken out and about at night and for fun outings, not just during the hours of nine to five. With the in-between season coming up (that awkward time between winter and spring), a white button down is one of the best transitional pieces, to take you from those winter blues to adding that springy pep in your step.
This weekend my boyfriend and I decided to go to Boston for a fun day and the weather decided to give us a little preview of Spring for the first time in a while. I knew there would still be a winter chill so I wanted to go for something that would keep me warm while also being comfortable. I wanted to look a little more dressed up than normal since we were going out shopping and eating (my two favorite activities). My favorite pair of silver cracked oxfords from Cole Haan made the look more classic and a pair of ripped Jeans from Loft gave me the casual look I was going for. Also can’t forget my go to hard brown leather bag from Lodis, which is great for carrying all my essentials for a full day with no breaks! (This bag color is a piece everyone needs because it matches everything and carries into all seasons!) My white button down from Ann Taylor was a little bit oversized and with its long sleeves the perfect top to keep me warm.
An oversized white button down can make any outfit instantly more put together but casual at the same time because you aren’t tucking it in and it’s free to move however you do. What is even better is that you don’t have to worry about if your shirt looks pressed enough (aka ironed and not wrinkled) or sleek because that’s not the point! There is also a great advantage to playing with the sleeves rolling them up all the way or half, making it look neat or sloppy. If you wanted a more classic look a tighter white button down tucked in with the sleeves all the way down would instantly give you that look as well.
Bright or light colors are an instant mood and outfit booster so why not give yourself and your wardrobe a little pick me up with spring around the corner, and double check that you have that go to white button down ready to go.
How do you feel about the white button down? Do you have one you always go to? Dare to take it out for a spin at night or out of the office during the day?
